Seed to clinic, one custody record.
StrainChain is designed to follow regulated medical cannabis through every licensed hand-over, from the seed or propagation source to the authorised licensee that receives it for medical use. Each batch carries one record. Each hand-over adds one event to it.
Five hand-overs, each checked before it is accepted
Licensed seed source
Registered origin of seed or propagation material, with the transfer or import permit reference.
Licensed supplierLicensed cultivation
Batch created under the cultivator's licence. The batch ID is assigned here and travels with it.
Licensed cultivatorProcessing and GMP
Processing under a manufacturing authorisation. Splits and merges link child batches to parents.
GMP manufacturerImport and distribution
Import permit and wholesale authorisation recorded for each border crossing and each onward transfer.
Licensed importer / wholesalerDispensing point
Receipt recorded by the authorised licensee, checked against its valid licence or permit.
Pharmacy or clinic licensee
What the record is designed to hold at every hand-over
Roles and permits differ by country, so each stage records the authorities and permit types that apply where it happens, for example the Home Office and MHRA in the UK. The record is append-only. A mistake is corrected by a new event that references the old one, never by an edit.
This is the planned schema for licensed operator records. No live values are shown on this page.
| Field | What is held |
|---|---|
| batch_id | Operator-assigned unique ID, carried through every stage, with parent and child links on any split or merge. |
| licence_ref | Issuing authority, licence or permit number, scope and validity window of the party handing over and the party receiving. A hand-over with an expired or out-of-scope licence is refused. |
| lab_result_ref | Accredited laboratory, certificate ID, test date, status (pass, fail or pending) and a hash of the certificate file so a later swap is detectable. |
| custody_event | From party, to party, timestamp, quantity, and a signature from each side. Events are chained, so a gap in custody is visible. |
| recall_link | Planned: a query for the downstream holders of a batch, restricted to authorised parties, for withdrawals and regulator requests. |

No batches published yet
Operators decide what is published. Nothing appears on this page until a licensed operator has onboarded and chosen to publish a batch record. We do not show sample or demonstration batches, because a made-up record is not a record.
StrainChain is documentation and traceability for parties who already hold the right licences. Members' clubs and associations are not part of this medical chain. It is not a marketplace, it does not connect buyers to supply, and it carries no prices, menus or product listings.
